Random Thoughts from Brainerd Invitational

10% increase in participation over 2008 – This was very encouraging given current economic conditions and hopefully indication we will have good participation in all local events in 2009.

Points Division – This year we had 12 players sign up for the new “Points Division” played on the white/gold tees. We see this as a positive start for this new division. Several players in the Championship Division indicated they would probably be switching to this new Division in the future and were glad we had created this division.

With Signal Mountain and Red Bud offering similar divisions this year the participation in this division will only grow with time. The Points Division will definitely return in 2010.

Saturday lunch – Thanks to Todd Moreland of Adman Electric for providing lunch Saturday from Rib and Loin – great diversion during the rain delay.

Scores – In 2008, with everyone playing the white tees on Saturday, only 8 players shot under par. This year, after switching to the longer blue tees, 18 players shot under par. Go figure…

Prizes – Due to the rain-out on Sunday we doubled the number of prizes. Instead of paying 10 places in Championship Flight we paid Top 20. Instead of paying 5 places in First Flight we paid Top 10 and we paid Top 6 in the Points Division.

Ties were broken by scorecard playoff (last 9, last 6, last 3, #1, #2, etc.). If you won a gift certificate and were not there to pick it up your certificate is being held for you in the Brainerd Pro Shop.

Winners – Congratulations to Walt Moffitt for making par in the rain on Sunday and winning the 2009 Brainerd Invitational, and to Coy Mabry for winning the Senior Division (69).

Signal Mountain – Next tournament in “TPC Tour” is Signal Mountain Invitational May 15 – 17. Entry blank can be found in the Tournament Entry Information section of this website.
